About

Denis Sewanyana is a visionary Ugandan percussionist, artist, and cultural ambassador whose work resonates with audiences around the globe. From an early age, Denis was immersed in music, inspired by his father, Herman Sewanyana, a legendary Ugandan percussionist whose international tours brought a rich tapestry of global sounds into their home. Growing up in Kampala, Denis began experimenting with traditional instruments as a young child, blending his heritage with his father’s expansive record collection. By the early 2000s, Denis had become a regular fixture in Uganda’s vibrant music scene, performing with various bands and honing his craft as a musician and educator.

In 2020, Denis embarked on a transformative tour of the United States alongside Ugandan musician Chinobay. Through powerful performances and hands-on outreach programs, he shared his cultural artistry with students, inspiring creativity and bridging worlds through music. Upon returning to Uganda, Denis founded a community arts initiative near his hometown, dedicated to empowering children through music and art. This program not only nurtures young talent but also provides a safe space for self-expression and healing.

Denis’s artistry extends beyond percussion; his love for painting has blossomed into a celebrated career. His vivid paintings, inspired by African culture, daily life, and wildlife, are steeped in the beauty and stories of his community.
